From Betting Ban to Chinese League: Filip Firbacher’s Unexpected Career Turn

For many years, Filip Firbacher paid for one of the biggest talents in Czech football. The Hradec Králové native used to go to European teams for internships, but now came a shock. Due to his involvement in the betting case, he received a sentence of 30 months, which basically means the end of his career. But Firbacher has now received an offer from the second Chinese league.

In 2018, Filip Firbacher was included in the list of the 60 greatest talents of 2021 by the British newspaper The Guardian. In the past, he traveled to European teams for internships, and a bright future was predicted for him.

But his career has not been going well and now it seems that it is coming to an end. The twenty-two-year-old footballer and, in his free time, also a district referee, got involved in a betting case.

The Ethics Commission claims that the main accused, Michal Hladík, promised a bribe to the Hradec inmate for influencing the match. However, the Motorlet players reported it to the club’s representatives and the police.

Hladík must pay a fine of one million crowns and was banned from football for 15 years. Firbacher’s sentence is significantly lower, but he cannot work in football for 30 months. And that is basically liquidating at his age.

The career of a talented football player and referee would thus be over. And that’s completely unnecessary. The player will appeal against the commission’s decision and does not want to comment further on the situation.

Firbacher has offers from abroad

However, it seems that Firbacher could continue his career after all. But it could not be in the Czech Republic, it is the case in cultivated countries. According to the information of Jiří Feigl from Sport a second division Chinese club is interested in him.

But the young footballer has to wait to see where his ban actually applies. In any case, if he tried to bypass it, the door to Czech football should be closed.
