International at 20 years old. Franz Beckenbauer began his club career at Bayern Munich in 1964, at the age of 19, and became international in 1965. Here, he was surrounded by young English fans during the 1966 World Cup.

New York. Franz Beckenbauer, Pelé and Giorgio Chinaglia, the three stars of Cosmos New York. The German joined the United States in 1977 until 1980 and returned there to finish his career during the 1982-1983 season.

Failure at OM. Beckenbauer was recruited by Bernard Tapie in 1990 to join OM. But the adventure is cut short. After 4 months and 15 matches including 5 defeats, he was fired. This did not prevent him from enjoying success on the Bayern bench during two brief stints (Bundesliga 1994 and UEFA Cup 1996) before he became president of the club.

Controversial leader. President of the organizing committee for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he will be on the front line in the scandal of the awarding of the competition to Germany and will subsequently admit “an error” on his part.
