Fortuna Düsseldorf Gears Up for Remaining Round in Marbella with New Striker Addition

Since Tuesday, January 2, 2024, Fortuna Düsseldorf has been preparing for the remaining round in Marbella, Spain. There is also a new striker.

Fortuna Düsseldorf strengthened with Christoph Daferner just in time for the winter training camp. The center forward is on loan from 1. FC Nürnberg until the end of the season. Fortuna has a purchase option.

The 25-year-old has been playing for the club from Franconia since July 2022 and scored four goals in 38 competitive games. He came with the recommendation of 13 goals this season from the then second division team Dynamo Dresden. So far this season, Daferner has only made four appearances for a total of 184 minutes.

With another stint at FC Erzgebirge Aue, the 1.89 meter tall attacker brings a total of experience from 86 second division appearances (17 goals). In the 2018/19 season, the former U20 international also got a taste of Bundesliga air at SC Freiburg. He was trained in his youth at FC Augsburg and TSV 1860 Munich.

“I’m happy that the loan to Fortuna worked out and that I can be there right from the start of training. I want to integrate into the team quickly and do my part for a successful season,” explains Daferner.

Klaus Allofs, Director of Sports & Communications at Fortuna Düsseldorf, adds: “We were looking for a player who has already proven his qualities and still fits within our budget. Especially because Christoph didn’t have the best run in Nuremberg recently, his motivation is high to regain our old strength in a new environment. We are convinced that this will succeed.”

After Daferner’s signing: four center forwards in the squad

Christian Weber, Düsseldorf’s sports director, says: “With Christoph we are gaining another exciting offensive option for our squad. He brings mentality, a certain physical presence and quality in the air and therefore fits very well into the profile we are looking for. “

With Daferner, Vincent Vermeij, Daniel Ginczek and Jona Niemiec, Fortuna head coach Daniel Thioune now has four center forwards. It remains to be seen whether the quartet will continue to hunt for goals for the second division team in the remaining round or whether someone else will be given away.
