According to media reports, Paris St. Germain wants to sign Joshua Kimmich this winter. For the first time, the FC Bayern star is now commenting on the French plans. And Didi Hamann puts forward a special thesis about the future of the 28-year-old midfielder.

Joshua Kimmich has hardly commented publicly in the past few months. After FC Bayern’s 3-0 (1-0) win against TSG Hoffenheim last Friday evening, the national player answered questions from reporters. And also spoke about the rumors and reports that Paris St. Germain was very interested in him – and would ideally like to sign him this winter.

“I’m just concentrating on Bayern. For me it wasn’t an issue in the winter,” he said. “I am happy that I am fit and healthy again. “I have decided to concentrate fully on the second half of the season,” said the 28-year-old.

Kimmich’s contract with FC Bayern runs until the summer of 2025. “I don’t know how the club thinks. I think that we will sit down together at some point, that the club will approach me and we will discuss everything that is discussed between us.”

Sky expert Dietmar “Didi” Hamann also commented on Kimmich at the weekend. He assumes that FC Bayern will sign a defensive midfielder by the summer at the latest. “And then you have to see where Kimmich has his place,” said the former national player.

Hamann doesn’t see the national player in the eighth position: “In this position you get most of the balls with your back to the goal. I doubt whether he will help Bayern there. I think they need a more dynamic player there than Kimmich.” Hamann continued: “If Bayern get a six, then I would be surprised if Kimmich is still here next season.”

“Secondary, where I play”

When asked about the possible return to the national team on the right side of defense, which national coach Julian Nagelsmann had recently promised, Kimmich was open. “I never said I didn’t enjoy it or that I didn’t want to play it. I love playing football, I love being on the pitch. Then it’s secondary to me where I play.”

However, he repeatedly emphasized that he felt more comfortable in midfield and could better use his strengths there, said Kimmich. “I can also play at right back. In the end, the coach decides where he needs me.”

This also applies to a possible interaction in the national team with Toni Kroos from Real Madrid. “I’m always happy to play with Toni. If he feels like it and has the time, he’s very happy to do it,” said Kimmich. “In the end, it is always the coach’s decision as to which players he invites in order to form the best team.” Nagelsmann had recently held out the prospect of Kroos returning to the national team.
