It’s the excitement of the Bayern game. Union coach Nenad Bjelica caught Leroy Sané twice with his hand in the face and saw red. The national player, for whom it was the second slap in the face within a year, then commented on the scene.

And what does Sané say? The national player explained the scene to “Bild” in the 74th minute of the game as follows: “I actually just wanted to get the ball back quickly to start the next attack and then it got a bit wild and he grabbed me in the face.”
And further: “I don’t hold grudges when it comes to something like that and the scene has already been forgotten for me. I understand he was a bit emotional after the scene in our penalty area. Whatever – the main thing is that we got the three important points.”

In the controversial scene, Union attacker Kevin Behrens was touched on the foot by Konrad Laimer after a cross from the right side and was thus prevented from finishing. Referee Frank Willenborg decided to continue play, but the VAR did not intervene, to the annoyance of the Berliners.

For Sané it is the second wad within a year. In April 2023 there was a real scandal after the 0-3 quarter-final first leg in the Champions League at home against Manchester City. After Sané gestured to complain to Sadio Mané on the pitch following a misunderstanding, the duo clashed in the dressing room. A loud discussion culminated in fistfights. Mane hit Sané in the lip, which is said to have been bleeding. Back then, teammates had to separate the brawlers. Mane was suspended by FC Bayern for one Bundesliga game and fined.
