Eva Lys is still missing a win for a main draw place in Melbourne
Two German players still have the chance to get a place in the main draw of the Australian Open 2024. First of all, Eva Lys, who defeated the Romanian Irina Bara 6:1 and 6:2 in the second qualifying round. Lys now meets the Frenchwoman Leolie Jeanjean.
And Ella Seidel has also moved on. Seidel benefited from the abandonment of her opponent Francesca Jones with the score at 6:3, 6:7 (4) and 4:4, but before that she showed a strong fighting performance. The German was already 0:3 behind in the decision. In the qualifying final, Seidel will play against Haley Baptiste from the USA.
Niemeier loses thriller
Jule Niemeier, who lost to Renata Zarazua 4:6, 7:5 and 6:7 (10), was eliminated by a very narrow margin.
There is no longer any chance of an additional German starter among the men. Because Rudi Molleker lost against Stefano Napolitano 6:1, 4:6 and 2:6. And Benjamin Hassan had to admit defeat to Flavio Cobolli 4:6 and 3:6.
