Euro 2024 handball: Switzerland beaten, the Blues qualified for the main round before playing

One less worry. The France team is qualified for the main round of the Euro even before facing Germany in Berlin this Tuesday evening (8:30 p.m., BeIN Sports and TFX). In the 6 p.m. match, Switzerland which, two days earlier, had achieved the feat of hanging on to the Olympic champions (26-26) actually lost (29-27) against North Macedonia, already eliminated before the kick-off.

Switzerland, which has two defeats and a draw, is also eliminated in turn. Germany and France are therefore qualified for the main round which will begin on January 18 in Cologne.

This is obviously not a surprise and ultimately, it does not change the challenge that awaits the Blues this Tuesday evening. If they want to keep their chances of going far in this tournament intact, Guillaume Gille’s players must beat the Germans. If so, they will start the second round with two points since only those against teams qualified for the next round are taken into account.

If there is a victory this Tuesday evening, no one will talk about the failed match against Switzerland. In the second round, while waiting for the evening’s matches, France will meet Croatia who beat Romania in group B (31-25) and the winner of the Spain-Austria match which takes place at 8:30 p.m. She will also play against Hungary which came out of group C in which the second qualifying place is played out between Iceland and Serbia. In the event of a victory this Tuesday against Hungary, Iceland will qualify.
