Ethan Salas invited to Padres Spring Training

The San Diego Padres announced the players outside the 40-man roster who will be invited to Spring Training, highlighting among them the Venezuelan Ethan Salas.

The 17-year-old catcher made a big impression on the Padres’ farm in 2023, quickly rising from Class A, to Class A Strong, and then to Double A.

Salas played 48 games in Class A, batting .267 with nine home runs, 11 doubles and 35 RBIs.

From there he moved up to Class A Strong where he saw action in nine games, connecting seven hits in 35 at-bats (.200). The Venezuelan’s rise continued and he had the opportunity to debut in Double A, playing nine games, hitting five hits, one of them a double, in 28 at-bats.

In Venezuela Ethan belongs to the Águilas del Zulia, a team with which he saw action in the 2022-2023 LVBP season.

Salas played only one game, on November 4, 2011, failing in two at-bats and receiving a couple of walks.
