Elena Rybakina disposes of Aryna Sabalenka and moves to Brisbane

There was so much no match on Sunday during the final of the Brisbane tournament that Aryna Sabalenka ironically raised her arms to the sky when she won her first game of the match. Quite an admission of helplessness on the part of the world No. 2 who did not exist against Elena Rybakina (6-0, 6-3). The latter took the opportunity to win her first title of the season and make an impression before the Australian Open where she lost in the final last year against… Sabalenka.

This final between the number 1 and 2 seeds very quickly led to a one-sided duel. Precise and aggressive, Rybakina made the break from the start thanks to a decisive return, a sequence that she reproduced several times in the match. The Kazakh continued in the same tone, stifling any opposing attempt at rebellion. Dominated, Sabalenka rushed and made big mistakes which widened the gap between the two players even further.

Broken at the start of the second set, she called the physiotherapist to have her thigh massaged. In the process, she won her first game by stealing Rybakina’s serve. A burst of only a few minutes since the world No. 4 calmed things down before concluding without being worried after 1h10 of play. A perfect conclusion to an ideal week for the winner of Wimbledon 2022 who flew through the tournament without losing a single set . And a nice ramp towards the Australian Open for her.
