Delta Staff Manufacturing workers win new CCT negotiations – El Sol de México

In May 2023, the 1,200 workers at the Delta Staff Manufacturing maquiladora, in the town of Nazareno, in the municipality of Lerdo, Durango, received five pesos for profit sharing.

Those who make Levi’s and Docker’s pants for women and men and the cheapest one is priced in prestigious stores at 1,187 pesos, felt it offensive. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

So they made the decision to vote for an independent and democratic union. The Delta Staff workers rejected the pressures and manipulations of managers of the maquiladora company, pushing aside the local union leaders of the CTM as well as municipal government officials of Lerdo, in the heart of the Lagunera region.

Thus, a majority group of women, supporters of the Mexican Workers’ Union League (LSOM) sought and achieved this January 23, 2024, after overcoming a series of vicissitudes such as the obstruction of the work of the union representation inside the maquiladora plant .

Despite the attempts to manipulate the register, with their personal, free, direct and secret vote, they managed to make the Trade Union League the union organization that represents them for the negotiations and the signing of the new collective bargaining contract in the Delta Staff company. Manufacturing.

“This overwhelming decision reflects the need for changes both in the company and at the national level. Starting from this vote, it is planned to negotiate a new collective bargaining contract for workers as well as the remuneration for their work,” said the legal advisor of the LSOM, lawyer Pablo Franco, in an interview.

“The colleagues of Delta Staff have their own strength, which was solid and conscious; but they also had a supportive and consistent national union, which is already an example in various regions of the country,” said the Labor Law specialist.

According to the Minutes of Total Results of the votes carried out and supervised by the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration (CFCRL), in compliance with the Federal Labor Law, this is in order to guarantee the principles of representativeness in union organizations. .

For certainty in the signing, registration and deposit of collective labor contracts and in order to establish and make known the results of the dispute between the Mexican Workers’ Union League and the Industrial Union of Workers of the Clothing Industry, Similar and Related Areas of the Lagoon Region of the State of Durango.

In the process of building itself as a union

1,126 working people with the right to vote attended. 650 votes were cast, of which 642 were valid. There were 8 invalid votes. 500 ballots were not used.

The votes in favor of the Mexican Workers Union League were 565. And in favor of the Industrial Union of Workers of the Clothing, Similar and Related Industry of the Lagunera Section of the State of Durango, 79 votes.

Lawyer Claudia Leticia Quinteros Mireles, head of the State Verification Department of the CFCRL, attested and signed.

From the local union organization of the LSOM, lawyer Franco commented that there are still no leaders. The League has only appointed union officials. They are in the stage of forming the sections, according to the general secretary, Julieta Mónica Morales García.
