Daniel Mendelsohn, a homegrown player, is returning to the feet of Royal Bavarians next season. He comes from the Guggenberg Legionnaires Regensburg.

Füssen/Regensburg – Good news from the Füssen Royal Bavarians: Former national player Daniel Mendelsohn is returning to the Königswinkel next season and will thus significantly strengthen the “Royal Bavarians” pitching staff. The club has now announced this. The ex-legionnaire is expected in Füssen by May at the latest.

The Royals’ homegrown player moved to the Regensburg sports boarding school at the age of 15. He then went through all the national teams and made it to the 1st Bundesliga team of the Guggenberg Legionnaires Regensburg.

In 2021, due to limited playing time in the 1st Bundesliga, he moved back to Füssen and experienced a second spring there. With spectacular statistics, he recommended himself for the U23 national team and was later even nominated for the men’s European Championship.

The highlight of his career was the appearance at the World Baseball Classic Qualifier 2022 in his adopted hometown of Regensburg, where the native South African played in the uniform of the South African national team.

Those performances brought him a first division contract with the Legionnaires and Mendelsohn moved back to Regensburg in 2023 – but ultimately with only moderate success.

The 25-year-old medical student is currently studying abroad in South Africa and is playing in the South African league. He will join the Royal Bavarians by May at the latest, according to a statement from the Royals. “I now know where I belong and I really want to roll up the league with the boys!” says Mendelsohn, looking forward to the upcoming season.

“Daniel Mendelsohn is a player who can make the difference in our league with his class. His departure last year hurt us. With him back on board, I see us playing at the top,” says head coach and board member Mitch Stephan, happy about his return and setting a clear goal.

While winter training is already in full swing for the Füssen baseball team, the new Bundesliga season for the Ostallgäu team begins on April 13th away at the Munich Caribes.
