Coupe de France: Saint-Priest in full dream, Reims and Toulouse taken out by National clubs

The Coupe de France in all its splendor! The surprises multiplied this Sunday afternoon in the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France. Le Petit Poucet Saint-Priest (N3) managed to continue its incredible adventure against another amateur club Romorantin (N2). Sochaux also signed a second consecutive feat against a Ligue 1. The summary of the matches.

Saint-Priest, Little Thumb continues

The last National 3 club still in the race continued its improbable path in this Coupe de France. In a duel of amateur clubs against Romorantin (N2), the team from the suburbs of Lyon created the feat in the first half by scoring in quick succession on its only two shots on target by Morgan Pottier on a free kick (1-0, 36th) then by his home scorer Marco Essimi (2-0, 40th), best director of the entire N3 championship, on the receiving end of a great collective action.

In the 50th minute, Sacha Mila took advantage of a huge error by the Romorantin defense before pushing the ball into the empty cages (3-0) and already validating the qualification of his team. Saint-Priest even had the luxury of scoring a fourth goal from a corner thanks to Alexandre Muller (4-0, 70th), before Romorantin reduced the score (4-1, 89th). Disappointed to have drawn another amateur club in the 16th, the little thumb is, this time, almost guaranteed to play against a big one in the 8th.

Second surprise in a row for Sochaux

The other nice surprise of this Coupe de France comes to us from National, and from a former name of Ligue 1: Sochaux. Fallers of Lorient in the 32nd two weeks ago (2-1), after being behind, the Sochaliens repeated the same feat against Stade de Reims.

Behind from the 6th minute and a goal from Agbadou, the Francs-Comtois capsized the Auguste-Bonal stadium thanks to a great Axel Daho at the origin of Diego Michel’s first goal with a magnificent opening (1-1, 21st ), then by converting the penalty that he himself had obtained (2-1, 45th). Ahead throughout the second half, the Sochaliens survived against the Reims assaults until the 82nd minute and a superb curling strike from the untenable Agbadou (2-2, 82nd).

The two teams then met for the terrible penalty shootout. Sochaux goalkeeper Matthieu Patouillet delivered his team by magnificently diverting Joseph Okumu’s 6th Reims attempt. Sochaux is in 8th!

Rouen takes out Toulouse after 24 shots on goal!

Another Ligue 1 club to leave this Sunday: “Téfécé”. Led by Rouen after a quarter of an hour of play and a goal from Omar Bezzekhami (1-0, 16th), the defending champions quickly reacted first on a penalty thanks to Vincent Sierro (1-1, 19th) then thanks to Yann Gboho (1-2, 32nd) on a very good sequence in the area for his first achievement on the TFC jersey.

But this Rouen-Toulouse became a penalty affair when Benkaid missed the equalizer from 11 m, before the National club obtained a new penalty on the corner which followed on a completely logical handball. The first attempt was rejected again by Dominguez, but who did not have his feet on the line. Withdrawn, the third was finally the right one for Rouen who equalized before returning to the locker room (2-2, 42nd).

In the second period, despite Toulouse’s domination, Rouen took the lead again thanks to Sofyane Bouzamoucha’s header on an offering from Benkaid (3-2, 64th), before Toulouse came back in stoppage time thanks to a superb volley from their defender Nicolaisen (3-3, 90 + 2).

As a symbol, this round of 16 had to be played on the penalty spot anyway. In an endless penalty shootout, after 22 successful attempts in a row, Suazo missed Toulouse’s 12th penalty, before Rouen finished the job. The great adventure continues!

Le Havre, Strasbourg and Lille provide

Mishaps that the other Ligue 1 teams did not experience on the pitch this Sunday afternoon. In Châteauroux, Le Havre did not tremble and won (1-0) thanks to a goal from Steve Ngoura, 18 years old. Against Racing CFF (N2), Lille did not dominate as in the previous round against the Golden Lion (12-0) but did the job to qualify for the round of 16 with a short and difficult victory ( 1-0).

In a Ligue 1 club duel, Strasbourg logically dominated Clermontois unrecognizable at home (1-3) thanks to Abakar Sylla, Habib Diarra and a superb free kick combination concluded by Dilane Bakwa. Clermont, winner of Metz in the 32nd round then of Nantes in Ligue 1, fell back into its failings and suffered a 5th defeat in its last 9 matches.
