Coupe de France: PSG inherits US Orléans in the round of 16

After passing through Castres, where it easily eliminated the amateur club Revel (9-0), PSG will head to Loiret during the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. The draw carried out this Monday evening on the BeIN Sports set offered a relatively affordable meeting for Kylian Mbappé’s partners who inherited US Orléans, a National club. This confrontation will take place away on Saturday January 20 or Sunday January 21. The USO and PSG will meet again a little more than five years after their last confrontation which took place in December 2018 during the round of 16 of the League Cup.

The Parisians, then coached by Thomas Tuchel, won with difficulty at the Stade de la Source against the Orléanais still present in Ligue 2 at the time. Goals from Edinson Cavani and Moussa Diaby allowed the capital club to win by the smallest margin (2-1). Returning to National at the end of the 2019-2020 season, US Orléans, tenth in its championship, has had a good run in this Coupe de France: after eliminating AC Ajaccio in the 8th round (2-1), the Orléanais got the better of Nîmes in the 32nd finals (2-1).

Heavy for the Racing Club de France

For PSG, big winners over US Revel last weekend (9-0), this round of 16 of the Coupe de France looks like a new accessible match, as they aim to lift this cup which has eluded them since 2021. Luis Enrique’s men avoid a long trip, since the Stade de la Source – if the match is played in this venue (around 7,000 seats) – is located around 1h30 from the capital. This opposition against the finalist club of the 1980 Coupe de France occurs between a trip to Lens, on January 14, and the reception of Brest at the Parc des Princes, on January 28.

As for the other Ile-de-France clubs, Racing Club de France (N2), winner of Chambly in the previous round, will have the difficult task of facing Losc, fifth in Ligue 1. Paris FC, third and last representative of the Paris region , will travel to Valenciennes (Ligue 2).
