Confusion and Controversy at the 2024 Japan Veterans International Judo Tournament

The 2024 Japan Veterans International Judo Tournament (18th Japan Masters Judo Tournament) was held at the Kodokan.

Following last year, I am entering the M5 66kg class.
There were 13 entries in the M5 66kg class, including two from overseas.

The M5 66kg class was held at the second venue, and I was seeded in the first round.
At the end of the second round, he will face the winner of Masashi Kanai (Hyogo Prefecture) and Atsushi Misono (MYS).

If he makes it through, he will likely face Shinji Nishio (Tokyo), who lost one match in the Ehime tournament and won the previous tournament, in the semifinals.

The combination that was first announced looked like the one above, but for some reason it was drastically changed on the 18th.

according to it,
1st round seed.
The second round will be against the winner of Michihito Urago (Kanagawa Prefecture) and Agostini Emanuel (BEL).
Apparently Agostini Emmanuel (BEL) was the Belgian champion during his active days.
In the semi-finals, they will face off against the winning players: Masashi Kanai (Hyogo Prefecture), Yoshiaki Arai (Ehime Prefecture), and Hideo Nojima (Hiroshima Prefecture).

However, BEL AGOSTINI emanuele took part as ITA AGOSTINI ermanno.
I don’t know what it is.

It is true that ITA AGOSTINI ermanno was on the original entry list, but he was changed when the pairings were announced.
Then, the player who appeared at the match venue was ITA AGOSTINI ermanno.

Furthermore, the name of the country has been changed to ITA AGOSTINI Emanuele in the awards.

There’s a lot of confusion as to who is the world champion, whether it’s from a different country or a different name.

BEL AGOSTINI ERMANNO will be competing in the 60kg category.

It’s completely unclear which one is correct.

I’m going to follow the official announcement from the All Japan Judo Federation on Facebook, so I’ll name him ITA AGOSTINI emanuele. (Although it doesn’t make sense)

The game unfolds like this.

Four phases on the left.
After the start, he tried to suppress the pull, but was crushed by the desperate Kouchi-gari.
Next, the instructor gets into a kumite dispute and doesn’t work on both parties.
After restarting, my left hand hits my opponent’s face and wait.

Next, I held down the handle in the same manner as the beginning, and tried to connect from Kouchi-barai to Tomoe-nage, but it had no effect.
At this point, Agostini changes his strategy and tries to hit the back collar with his right hand, but I’m also expecting that and won’t let him get it. Then it will change to aim at the front collar. I tried to take the fisher’s hand from above, but the distance was a bit far, so I held back the other person’s hand, and in order to avoid a one-handed situation, I took the collar with the pull handle, and the fish turned into a right-handed position.

Thinking that he would have gained a bit of an offensive advantage in the flow up to this point, he wanted to use his technique to break things up, so he firmly hit a left-hand small-inner curling move, but this turned out to be naive.
Due to the distance, his feet were unable to reach him and he was able to see through it like a float.
Intuitively, I didn’t think it was possible, but when I watched the video, it was definitely equivalent to a technique.

There is nothing that can be done about what has been taken away, so we will think about how to recover it.

As before, Agostini chose the right side and started to develop with a shoulder-carrying move, but after reading this, I pulled back my left leg and crushed it, and then turned it over with a Ukiotoshi and couldn’t get my back. However, he succeeded in attaching his body side.
However, the referee, assistant referee, and jury all passed the call.
The only thing I can think of is that it falls under the definition of no points for turning over?
I don’t think it falls under the category of flipping.

From here on, there is only one chance to waste time.
Next, I tried to turn the corner, but it didn’t work because he kept his hips back and was focused on defense.

I want to catch him somehow, but even though the defeated opponent receives additional guidance, time is up.

I didn’t think it was a good idea to try to cut the plot and cut the development.
I’d like to hear your judgment on whether or not the change of the shoulder carriage to Ukiotoshi is eligible for points.
I am also interested as a referee.

The two juniors won the championship. He was a disappointing senior.

Eight people from Kamakura participated, with one person coming in second place and two people coming in third place.

So, this was my 5th challenge, and although I lost the first match and didn’t win any prizes, being able to compete against players from overseas was a great asset.

My desire to take on the challenge of competing in the World Veterans has grown stronger and stronger.

Match results
I lost by ippon due to corner ochi, but it was a waza-ari superiority loss.

I participated in the blog ranking.
