Coach Ron Jans Speaks Candidly About Departure of Versatile Player Mats Seuntjens from FC Utrecht

Coach Ron Jans has spoken candidly about the departure of Mats Seuntjens from FC Utrecht. The coach shares his thoughts on the versatile player.

“Mats is a good football player and a very pleasant, open boy,” Jans begins in conversation NOS. “He, FC Utrecht and I have not been able to achieve effectiveness. Whether as a striker, left winger or behind the strikers. He has shown very good things, but then the ball always went through the keeper, just next to or via the post. Then his lesser points, switching, defending and putting pressure, come up again.”

Jans provides insight into the previous conversations with Seuntjens. “Mats and I already sat together in December. Then he fought back very well, but now we found ourselves in a situation again where he ended up on the bench.”

The coach continues: “I have a certain way of playing in mind, then you also appeal to his lesser qualities and then I already said to him: If you can be happier somewhere else, I’m not going to stop you. That has now happened.”

“He also did not feel completely free in his head. Mats Seuntjens is much too good to sit on the bench, then I would rather he be happy somewhere else. I am really going to miss him. He is a boy who takes care of atmosphere, who can do really brilliant things during training and competitions, but he also has those moments when you think: Mats, he could do with a little more,” says Jans.
