Charity Racketlon Tournament Raises Funds for Marie-Louise Foundation

Racketlon is a sport that combines 4 racket disciplines: table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis. The same player strings together 4 rounds of 21 points, one round in each discipline. The winner is the one with the most points. The Badminton Club Tournefeuille (BCT) association has been organizing a charity racket for 2 years which follows the same principle, although with some differences. It is a team tournament of 2 to 6 players which includes three disciplines: badminton, padel and table tennis. It is open to everyone regardless of skill level or discipline. Each team is free to make the composition it wishes since all disciplines are played in doubles. The winning team is the one with the most points at the end of the three disciplines.

“Our racketeon is part of a charitable project whose aim is to raise money for the Marie-Louise Foundation, an institution recognized as being of public utility which aims to promote the well-being of adults with severe disabilities The foundation offers solutions to shape the best possible living environment for its residents, thanks to 7 adapted living spaces (6 Houses and a Farm with its equestrian center). The money raised will enable people with severe disabilities to go to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”, explains Sokunthea Top president of the BCT.

Indispensable partners

The BCT was not the only one in the organization, far from it. 4Padel Toulouse-Colomiers, Les Lions des Arènes Romaines, La Fondation Marie-Louise participated in the organization and various partners helped with logistics and the prizes to be won. This organization was orchestrated by Sokunthea Top: “Two years ago, I had just taken over the presidency of the BCT, and with my vice-president we wanted to organize an event to revitalize our club and bring together different Tournefeuille associations. At that time I had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that affected my joints, which prevented me from practicing my favorite sport, badminton. I had to fall back on another racket sport that was gentler in terms of impact on the ground. , that’s where I discovered padel. Following a project for the telethon which fell through, we had the idea of making a racket by including padel as a new discipline and one thing led to another. we set up the project together for the Marie-Louise Foundation.”

One of the objectives of organizing this event was to highlight the Terre de Jeux 2024 label while conveying the symbols of the Olympic Games, which are solidarity and sharing. “Sport is a lever for inclusion and social cohesion, which makes it possible to unite people in their great diversity, able-bodied or disabled, around a common passion or a simple moment of sharing. The most rewarding thing is to see the joy on the faces of the participants and also on those of the residents of the Marie-Louise Foundation. This year exploded the counters since we managed to raise €6,000 (€2,575 last year).”
