Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell and Lauri Markkanen’s Market Status with Three Weeks to Go

The market testing continues with three weeks left until it closes. This time on account of two of the heavyweights of this transfer window: Donovan Mitchell and Lauri Markkanen. The Cavs guard has been the subject of rumors for about a year because of how disappointing his fit in Cleveland has proven to be in the long run. New York always seems ready to pull the trigger, as they almost did before his departure from Utah, but it seems that the Ohio franchise’s plan is to keep him, at least, until summer. Sam Vecenie reports through The Athletic.

Right now Bickerstaff’s men are fourth in the East in a four-way tie for seventh place with the Heat (5), Pacers (6) and Knicks (7). The franchise thinks that, once they overcome the setback of injuries that staggered them at the beginning of the season, they could establish themselves in court-playing positions. Also, beyond the Knicks, there doesn’t seem to be too many calls for Mitchell. The former Jazz player has this and one more year left on his contract (he has a player option for 25-26), so the Cavaliers have no urgency in finding an accommodation for him despite certain rumors that point to his refusal to renew.

Markkanen stays in Salt Lake City

And, speaking of the Jazz, it seems that the good streak of results they are experiencing has made them rethink certain things. Already at this point last year, Danny Ainge put the squad into liquidation to ensure a more favorable position for the last Draft and, in the process, accumulate future picks. But, if a couple of weeks ago everything seemed to be for sale, now it is difficult to think that Markkanen can leave. The results have made the price of the Finnish more expensive until it erased any market bid that existed. This involves, above all, the Warriors, Kings, Pacers and Thunder.
