CAN 2024: blocked by the FFF, Hervé Renard will not coach Ivory Coast

Hervé Renard remains coach of the French women’s team and nothing else. The 55-year-old aimed this Thursday to respond favorably to the call for help from Ivory Coast, in great danger in its African Cup of Nations and in search of a coach after the dismissal of Jean-Louis Gasset . But, on Thursday evening, the French Football Federation (FFF), after several hours of suspense, responded unfavorably to Hervé Renard and his Ivorian counterparts.

The latter, after two defeats and a victory in the CAN group stages, are qualified for the round of 16 and will face Senegal on Monday evening in Yamoussoukro (9 p.m.). The president of the Ivorian federation Idriss Diallo had set his sights on Hervé Renard, winner of Ivory Coast in 2015 with the Elephants. This Thursday, he contacted Philippe Diallo, president of the FFF, with the aim of obtaining a loan from the coach of the Bleues, already knowing the interest shown by Hervé Renard for this project which would have lasted, at most, only until to February 11, date of the CAN final.

But Jean-Michel Aulas, head of women’s football development at the FFF, and Philippe Diallo ultimately responded in the negative to the request from Côte d’Ivoire and Hervé Renard. The latter must prepare for the Final Four of the Women’s Nations League with the France team. Wendie Renard’s teammates will face Germany in the semi-final in Lyon on February 23.
