Burgos BH Riders Take On Intense Start to the Season Across Three Continents

Burgos BH will experience one of the most intense starts to the season in recent years this weekend. The team led by Julio Andrés Izquierdo will compete on up to three continents at the same time, participating in events in Europe, America and Oceania. A block of purple riders will debut their new Alé Cycling kit in the first two races of the Spanish season: the 1969 Valencian Community Classic-GP Valencia and the new Castellón Grand Prix-Ruta de la Cerámica. In parallel, Aaron Gate and George Jackson will continue their oceanic journey running the Gravel and Tar in New Zealand and Eric Fagúndez defends his title as national time trial champion in Uruguay.

The first European races of the season will be held in the Valencian Community. The Classic Valencian Community 1969-Grand Prix of Valencia will be the first contact with the competition for seven runners from Burgos BH after several months of training. On this occasion, the Valencian event recovers a route similar to that of 2021 and 2022, offering a clear opportunity to sprinters.

The terrain will be mostly flat, except for some climbs in the first half of the race, such as the Coll de Rates or the Alto de Barx. However, the greatest hardness will be determined by the duration of the classic. A total of 200 kilometers will separate the start in La Nucía and the finish in Valencia, an unusual distance in races at the beginning of the year. This test will mark the debut of Gergios Bouglas with the purple team. The Greek will debut his new national champion jersey competing alongside Óscar Pelegrí, Mario Aparicio, Jetse Bol, Rodrigo Álvarez, Antonio Angulo and Ángel Fuentes.

A day later, at the Gran Premio de Castellón-Ruta de la Cerámica, Ángel Fuentes, Antonio Angulo and Georgios Bouglas will repeat their presence, who will be joined by Ander Okamika, Jesús Ezquerra, Clément Alleno and Victor Langellotti, who was ninth the previous year. although on a different route. This new race debuts on the UCI calendar with a heterogeneous route of 176.9 kilometers between Castellón and Onda. The orography is not excessively difficult, despite the ascent of the Alto de Sierra Engarcerán in the first hour of the race. However, a few kilometers from the finish line, the climb to Collado de Ayódar could select the peloton and eliminate some sprinters.

Away from Spain, Burgos BH will have representatives participating in two other tests. Aaron Gate and George Jackson will once again compete with their national team in the Gravel and Tar on Saturday, January 20. As happened a week ago in the New Zealand Classic, where they obtained an important haul in the form of five victories, they will be two of the favorites to conquer this New Zealand UCI category 1.2 event. Starting and finishing in Ashhurst, the runners will travel 135 kilometers in which they will cross up to five long stretches of gravel in the three circuits that make up the race.

Finally, Eric Fagúndez will begin his season competing in the Uruguayan Championships. On Saturday the 20th he will try to repeat the victory achieved last year in the time trial, to continue wearing his national champion jersey. The event will take place in Tacuarembó, over a 33 kilometer route. The background test will depart from this same town a day later, heading to Rivera.
