Bev Bawn: A Multi-Sport Star Honored in the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame

Like so many other honorary members of the Sports Hall of Fame, Bev Bawn of Devon was touched by the magic of York Arena and “Baseball Hill.”

His Little League Baseball stats from 1954 – 6-0 on the mound and .528 batting – were a testament to the rising star he was.

He excelled at most team sports, including hockey, baseball, softball and rugby. Its successes run the gamut: from local to provincial and from regional to national. In hockey and baseball, he was a perennial All-Star and Most Valuable Player.

Despite his national championships as a player and coach, he considers his Eastern Canadian hockey title in 1967 to be the greatest moment of his sporting career.

In an era where the majority of athletes specialize in a single sport, Bev Bawn’s star – athlete and gentleman of any sport and any season – continues to shine brightly.

Inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame on June 6, 1992.
