Bayern Munich has loaned English international Eric Dier from Tottenham for six months. As the first winter signing, the 29-year-old should help reduce the personnel shortage in the defense of the German series champions.

English media reported on Thursday of a performance-related loan fee of up to 3.5 million euros. Dier can be used in defensive midfield as well as in central defense.
Dier’s contract with Tottenham expires in the summer; he has played for the north London club since 2014 and was a long-time teammate of now Bayern striker Harry Kane. Bayern also negotiated an option to extend the Englishman’s contract until 2025.
