Jannik Sinner is currently in Turin recovering from a hip injury. But time is of the essence because the French Open is just around the corner. The guesswork surrounding the Sesto superstar gets bigger every day.

For Jannik Sinner, the race against time has long since begun. Will the man from Puster manage to cure his hip problems in time and get fit for the French Open, which starts on May 27th? The world number two has been staying at JMedical in Turin for a few days, which is the clinic of the Juventus football club. His rehabilitation visit there was actually supposed to end on Wednesday, but now his stay has been extended until at least Sunday. Sinner is said not to have completed any tennis training yet.

Is that enough to be able to compete in a Grand Slam tournament, where the game might last five sets? Sinner’s heart says yes, but the doctors stop him – that’s what the Gazzetta dello Sport reports. The man from Sexten reportedly wants to fly to Paris and give it a try, but the medical staff have advised the young star to only take the pitch if he is really 100 percent fit.

A photo as a glimmer of hope

What gives the many Sinner fans hope: On Wednesday, his coach Darren Cahill posted a photo on Instagram showing his packed tennis things. So the coach is on the way to his protégé – just like his parents Silinde and Hanspeter. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, they should come to Turin to support Sinner in this delicate moment.

So the guesswork surrounding Jannik Sinner continues. But even if he doesn’t take part in the second Grand Slam tournament of the season, the French Open could be a success for Sinner: If Novak Djokovic doesn’t make it to the final, then the man from Sexten will be the new number 1 in the tennis world.
