Australian Open 2024: Schedule, results and other info

Last year, in the men’s singles, the most successful tennis player in the history of Serbia, Novak Djokovic, celebrated his 10th title at the Australian Open, when in the final he handled the Greek representative Stefanos Tsitsipas smoothly in three sets.

Among the women, Aryna Sabalenková of Belarus was rejoicing in her first singles victory at a Grand Slam after she was able to turn a balanced duel with Jelena Rybakinová from Kazakhstan.

The Czech fans were delighted by the couple Barbora Krejčíková – Kateřina Siniaková, who reached the very top and won their seventh joint triumph from the four most prestigious tournaments. Karolína Plíšková went the furthest from the Czech Republic in women’s singles, who was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Jiří Lehečka also reached the same distance among the men, who recorded the best result at the Grand Slams in his career so far.

Czechs at the Australian Open 2024

The biggest Czech hopes in women’s singles will be Markéta Vondroušová and Barbora Krejčíková, who are in the top ten of the WTA rankings. Karolína Plíšková defends her quarter-final participation from last year, but she did not have a completely successful season and will not be among the favorites.

Among the men, Jiří Leheček will also defend his promotion to the top eight from last year, and he will certainly aim high for this year as well. He will be joined by Tomáš Macháč and Jiří Veselý in the men’s singles.

Kateřina Siniaková and Barbora Krejčíková will no longer defend the doubles title together, as they decided to end their partnership at the end of last season and will fight for the victory at the tournament this year with new partners.

Australian Open winners since 2010

The already mentioned Novak Djokovic is among the most successful Australian Open players in history. He managed to win ten times in his career so far, namely in 2008, 2011-2013, 2015-2016, 2019-2021 and 2023. Only three players were able to stop Djokovic’s winning streak. Stan Wawrinka managed it once (2014), Rafael Nadal twice (2009 and 2022) and the legendary Roger Federer three times (2010, 2017-2018).
