The organization of the Australian Grand Prix, which will be held on March 24 in 2024, has intervened after the fans stormed after the 2023 race. Fans are no longer welcome on the circuit in Melbourne after the finish.

The Australian Grand Prix won a contract extension last year until the end of 2037, but was not properly in the news in 2023. The race itself was entertaining (three red flags, eight retirements) and perhaps even the most spectacular race of 2023, won by Max Verstappen ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. However, things went wrong after the finish. While there were still cars on the track, fans were already able to visit the circuit. This created a dangerous situation. The organization was instructed by the FIA to investigate the incident and prevent it in the future, something for which the organization has now found a solution.

Statement organization

The organization has announced that it will no longer allow fans on the track after the race. The following can be read in the statement from the organization of the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. “The Australian Grand Prix Corporation advises that – given the ongoing FIA investigation into what happened last year following the conclusion of the 2023 event, there will be no track access for fans following the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2024 “Decisions regarding track access for fans following the conclusion of future races will be made at a later date.” For now, the rule is only valid for the 2024 season, probably in the hope of finding another solution for 2025.

Contract until the end of 2037

The Australian Grand Prix will be held this season on Sunday, March 24 and is the third race of the 2024 season, which has 24 races. The Grand Prix’s contract therefore runs until the end of 2037, after it was given a two-season contract extension in 2023. This makes it the Grand Prix with the longest contract in Formula 1. The premier class will therefore still be active in Melbourne in the coming years.
