Argentina’s Davis Cup Team Announced for First Match Against Kazakhstan

The captain of the Argentine team, Guillermo Coria, defined the team that will participate in the series of Davis cup in the first match between Argentina and Kazakhstan. The event will take place in the city on February 3 and 4 at the Jockey Club of Rosario.

The players selected by the former No. 3 in the world ranking are: Francisco Cerúndolo (No. 21), Sebastian Báez (No. 28), Tomás Etcheverry (No. 30), Horacio Zeballos (No. 5 in doubles) and Máximo González (No. 13 in doubles).

The base of the team is similar to the one obtained by the 4-0 win over Lithuania in September in Buenos Aires and made it to this stage.

The Argentine team must win against Kazakhstan to advance to the Davis Cup Finals scheduled in September, with four zones of four countries given one. From there those classified for the Final 8 will emerge in November, after the end of the ATP calendar.

Argentina, champion of the 2016 edition, will face the Asian country for the third timewith which they recorded a victory (5-0, quarterfinals 2011) and a defeat (2-3 in the playoffs of the 2017 edition).

In their last performance, the Kazakhs beat Bulgaria 2-1, away, in World Group I and thus earned the right to play in the Qualifiers. Those responsible for that triumph were Timofel Skatov (222º), Alexander Bublik (32º) and Aleksandr Nedovyesov (45° en dobles)who formed a pair with the first national racket.

Bublik, 26, has been a professional since 2016, has a record of 127 wins and 125 losses on the circuit and has won three titles: Montpellier 2022 (fast surface), Halle (grass) and Antwerp (fast), both in 2023.

The remaining Qualifiers series: Canada – South Korea, Serbia – Slovakia, Croatia – Belgium, Hungary – Germany, Netherlands – Switzerland, Czech Republic – Israel, Ukraine – United States, Finland – Portugal, China Tapei – France, Sweden – Brazil and Chile – Peru.
