Alpine skiing, Italy’s squad for the Kitzbuehel slalom. Vinatzer and Sala the blue tips on Ganslern

Sunday 21 January the long week of Kitzbuehel will come to an end with the completion of the sixth seasonal slalom valid for the 2023-2024 men’s Alpine skiing World Cup. After a weekend dedicated to speed on the Streif, the jet men of the White Circus will leave room for the specialists between the narrow posts on the Ganslern.

Today the FISI announced the list of Italians called up by technical director Max Carca for the Sunday race in Austria: Tommaso Sala, Alex Vinatzer, Stefano Gross, Tobias Kastlunger, Simon Maurberger e Corrado Barbera. Great expectations especially for Sala and Vinatzer, who have already demonstrated this season that they can keep up with the best on a single heat.

So far, however, there has never yet been a great podium exploit for the Italian team, which is looking for an important result to turn the current winter around. The Bel Paese’s last success in the Kitzbuehel slalom dates back to 2012 with Christian Deville, while the most recent top3 on the Ganslern was achieved by Patrick Thaler in 2014.
