The Alba Berlin basketball players celebrated their fifth victory in the Euroleague. The Bundesliga team won at home in front of 8,579 spectators against the Serbian series champions Red Star Belgrade with 89:80 (51:36). Despite the success, Alba remains second to last in the table. The best Berlin throwers were Matt Thomas with 19 and Gabriele Procida with 17 points.

Coach Israel Gonzalez’s team was committed to their work right from the start. Although both teams missed a lot of shots in the first few minutes, the hosts got into their rhythm better in the middle of the first quarter. At the beginning of the second section, Alba was able to pull away for the first time (25:18).

Afterwards, Red Star – cheered on by numerous Serbian fans in the hall – came close again, but continued to have problems offensively. The Bundesliga team worked very well defensively and repeatedly won the ball, which they refined offensively with quick moves. The Berlin team pulled ahead to 51:33 before the break.

Even after the break, Alba remained ahead and at times pulled away to 22 points (70:48). In the 24th minute, world champion Johannes Thiemann collapsed on the field and then had to be carried off the field limping. He must have been hit. Without their captain, Alba had to tremble again in the final phase, but in the end it was just enough.
