Schedule and tables

Senegal group winners with maximum points

Senegal, who had already been promoted, celebrated their third win in their third game. Abdoulaye Seck (61st) and Iliman Ndiaye (90th) scored for the team led by star striker Sadio Mane, who will face a third-place team in the round of 16.

Guinea fell back to third place due to the defeat in Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy’s comeback, but is also firmly in the knockout round as one of the four best third-placed teams in the group.

Angola, Burkina Faso and Mauritania made it out of Group D in the evening. Mauritania celebrated their first victory in a final tournament with a 1-0 win against Algeria and thus secured their ticket to the round of 16. Angola secured group victory with a 2-0 win against Burkina Faso.

Morocco coach denies racism

Away from the game, Morocco’s team boss Walid Regragui denied racist comments about Congo’s captain Chancel Mbemba and at the same time made death threats against him public. The allegations are “shameful,” said Regragui. The 48-year-old reported that he himself received racist messages and death threats on social networks during the debate.

Regragui and Mbemba clashed in the heated preliminary round game between Morocco and Congo (1-1) on Sunday. Mbemba then suggested that Regragui had insulted him. Racist comments and symbols then appeared on Mbemba’s social media accounts. “I didn’t insult the player,” emphasized Regragui.
