72-Year-Old Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Affirms Plan to Continue in NFL

In a radio program, the 72-year-old coach assures that he plans the next campaign with the firm conviction of continuing in Seattle and the NFL

SEATTLE — Faced with speculation that he could retire, the coach of the Seahawks, Pete Carrollreiterated on Monday that he intends to continue in 2024 for what will be his fifteenth season in Seattle.

“I plan to coach this team,” he stressed. Pete Carroll on his radio show Seattle Sports 710 AM one day after the season of the Seahawks will end with a victory over the Arizona Cardinals, but without a place in the playoffs. “I told them I love these guys and that’s what I’d like to do and see how far I can go. I’m not burnt out. I’m not tired. I’m none of that. I need to do a better job and I need to help my assistants more and “We have to do a better job as a coach, and there are many areas for improvement.”

At 72 years old, Carroll has been the oldest head coach in the NFL for several years, leading to speculation about when his career might end. The extension he signed in 2020 runs through the 2025 season.

Los Seahawks they defeated Arizona to finish 9-8, but they also needed a loss from the Green Bay Packers before the Chicago Bears Sunday to earn the NFC’s seventh seed. This is the fourth time in 14 seasons under Carroll, and the second time in the last three years, that Seattle is left out of the playoffs.

When asked after the game if this season makes him want to return in 2024, Carroll replied: “Yeah…of course I’d love to do that.”

When asked if he expected to continue, Carroll reiterated: “Yes, yes. At this point, yes.”

Los Seahawks they had the 30th-ranked defense and 21st-ranked offense in 2023. On his radio show, Carroll hinted that changes could be on the horizon.

“It comes this time of year and that’s the time when planning begins,” he said. “There has been planning. There are discussions and conversations about how you are going to continue, what the future will be like and what is coming. [El gerente general John Schneider] and I’m always talking about those things. But this is when the real business starts to take place and there are things that need to be done and decisions that need to be made and selections and all kinds of things. “That’s what this time of year is and we’ll see how we go.”
