Hermosillo, Sonora; September 7, 2023.- From Plaza Zaragoza as the main stage, the Government of Sonora and the International Archery Federation inaugurated the Final of the Archery World Cup in which the 32 best male and female archers will participate. from the world, coming from 15 countries including Alejandra Valencia from Sonora, who will compete in the world cup in this discipline in her hometown.
The Secretary of Government, Adolfo Salazar Razo, representing the governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montaño, highlighted that this competition to be held on September 9 and 10, will put Sonora in the eyes of the world, especially in the field of sport and will provide intense tourism and sports promotion by being the entity chosen as the venue for this international event held in the heart of the capital of Sonora.
“Each athlete here embodies years of training, dedication and perseverance that allowed them to reach this grand final in which 32 competitors participate, 16 men and 16 women. “Sonora is consolidating itself as an important reference to host large events like this,” she indicated.
Ana Gabriela Guevara, director of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade), expressed that an international competition like this fills with pride and shows only a part of what Sonora and Mexico can show.
The events will keep 16 women and 16 men in action, divided into two modalities, Recurve and Compound, which will begin on Saturday the 9th, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., in the women’s branch, and from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. :00 hours, in the men’s branch.
On Sunday the 10th, the second day of the Archery competition will be held at the same time and it is expected that the Sonoran archer Alejandra Valencia will compete on Saturday in the recurve modality starting at 4:00 p.m.
Prior to the start of the medal dispute, this Thursday the 7th the draw was held to define the first round of matches for the women’s and men’s divisions and later the presentation of athletes; On Friday the 8th, the official practice-training will take place, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.
