Among the good resolutions for 2024, like every beginning of the year, is to get back into shape. Recover the attitude to movement and why not become passionate about a new sport. 2023 was marked without any doubt by a single word: Padel. An activity that has now become mainstream and that we have all tried at least once in the holiday village, with school/university colleagues or with our group of friends, chasing away bad thoughts and smashing the ball against the glass with a smile in plexiglass.

Sport, here are the new trends

But let’s return to the present. What sporting alternatives does this new year have in store for us, undecided and curious people hungry for new disciplines, what will they base their choices on? Let’s try to take a look at the new sporting trends of this 2024, especially for Generation Zeta.

Combat sports

In first place we find high intensity sports. If in past years there has been a strong predilection for low intensity workouts, 2024 will see a change of direction. Millennials and Gen Z, in particular, will dedicate themselves to combat sports such as karate, kickboxing and jujitsu, to release stress, exercise calm and thus become even stronger physically and mentally.

Badminton

Badminton certainly stands out among the new features. If this name is not new to you, it is because you spent a happy childhood with Disney animated films, in fact badminton is none other than the sport practiced by Lady Marian and Lady Cocca in Robin Hood. First of all, there is a racket, very different from that of tennis, and an open conical ball called a shuttlecock. The aim is to send the shuttlecock “on the fly”, i.e. it must not touch the ground, into the opponent’s court.

Pickleball

Insiders from the United States tell us about the incredible popularity of Pickleball. We are ready to bet that in a few months he will soon also be in Italy as a true Padel antagonist, definitively stealing the limelight. He is actually a cross between tennis and padel, he differs in terms of ball, court and racket.

The ball has the same size but different weight, it is much lighter thanks to its plastic consistency which allows it not to undergo too many variations in case of wind. The racket, however, is smaller and flatter; the rectangular shape replaces the oval one of the tennis racket and the shorter handle brings it closer to that of the padel. In conclusion, the court is the same as badminton and therefore much smaller compared to padel. Another great innovation in the field is the kitchen area. The “kitchen” is the area close to the net where catching the ball is prohibited.

To you the choice. Have a good fun!
