Yeferson Soteldo Ridiculed After Team’s Relegation in Brazil

The Venezuelan midfielder Yeferson Soteldo He has become the target of ridicule after his team, Santos de Sao Paulo, lost the category in Brazil for the first time in its history.

The mockery and criticism came mainly from players of the Vasco da Gamawho last night saved the category in extremis, in a dramatic definition of the Brazilian.

This antipathy was born last October, in the match in which Santos won 4-1 against Vasco da Gama. In the second half of that match, Soteldo stopped the ball and climbed on top of it, a play made explicitly to provoke and mock his rivals.

The first to react to Santos’ relegation was Paul Vegetti, forward for Vasco da Gama. At the end of his match (which ensured his permanence), the Argentine attacker imitated Soteldo’s play, a fact that did not go unnoticed by the press.

“I understand a dribble, a bicycle, but stepping on the ball does not give you an advantage, it is disrespectful and I told him that in the game. “You don’t wish anyone harm, but you have to respect,” he commented after the game.

“They came from defeats and in that game they found victory, but we were always respectful. You have to respect, because the turns in football are hard,” he added.

“Let him get on top of the ball now”

But the one who was most acid in his mockery was the Chilean Gary Medelwho in a live broadcast from the locker room addressed Soteldo directly, making reference to that infamous play.

“Let that idiot get on top of the ball now,” the defender is heard saying during the video, in response to his followers, who reminded him of Santos’ relegation.

It is worth mentioning that, during that October match, Medel reacted furiously to Soteldo’s play, to the point that he was sent off by the referee.

The legendary Santosa team where figures like Pelé and Neymar shone, lost the category last night, after losing 1-2 against Fortaleza in the last match of the Brasileirao 2023.
