Every day, its share of bad news for Ile-de-France residents. Or almost. This is what could sum up the news of recent days regarding the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. If the organizers want to make Paris a celebration, the question of transports in common remains a source of tension and a black spot remains in the transport plan: that of serving the Parc des Princes and Roland-Garros.

Two attractive sites for two metro lines

“These sites will host very attractive events and have few lines to serve them,” projects the president of Île-de-France Mobilités. Unlike the Stade de France, served by two RER and two metro lines, the Parc des Princes and Roland-Garros are only connected by two metro lines: 9 and 10.

To compensate for the lack of metro, the transport authority in Île-de-France is planning the bus installation to “catch up with line 1 at Porte Maillot or the RER C”. “Perhaps spectators will have to walk through the Bois de Boulogne to get to the events. But there are worse things to do in the middle of August,” says Valérie Pécresse.

During the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the public transport offer will be increased by 15% compared to a usual month of August to cope with the flow of travelers. The Paris 2024 Games should be the first Games in history to be 100% accessible by public transport.

Concerns vs open chakras

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Transport Clément Beaune, Marc Guillaume, prefect of Île-de-France, expressed his worry regarding the public transport plan for the Games. “In certain places, the transport plan only allows spectators to be transported if all other travelers were dissuaded or almost all,” it is repeated in the columns of the Chained Duck. If the term “Olympic confinement” was used by the press, the prefecture denied “any notion and ‘Olympic confinement’ in its letter”.

For her part, the president of IDFM called on Ile-de-France residents to “open their chakras”. “We are going to welcome the world and we are the only country that is not happy about it. Sinistrosis is painful,” she responded to her detractors.
