Women’s Champions League: winner of Roma (2-1), PSG relaunches

An alarm clock ! And a relief. After a failed start to the Champions League with two defeats in as many matches and 0 goals scored, PSG started the first this Thursday evening during the 3rd day of the group stage. Pugnacious and determined, the Parisiennes won against AS Roma (2-1) at the Parc des Princes. A major success which allows them to maintain hope of securing a place in the quarter-finals next spring.

In the standings, this first Parisian success accompanied by Bayern Munich’s draw against Ajax Amsterdam (1-1) reshuffles the cards in this group C. If Jocelyn Prêcheur’s daughters remain last with 3 points, they now only have two lengths behind the Bavarians and only one behind Ajax and their evening opponent. Everything is possible before the last 3 days! “It’s a good satisfaction even if it’s only a first step because we’re still last,” says coach Jocelyn Prêcheur. The results still remain unsatisfactory with only one success but we have relaunched. Mentally, I liked the girls’ state of mind. We must capitalize on this for the rest of this competition. The other result suits us. The next 3 matches will be a fight and qualification will be decided on small details. »

Geyoro and Katoto meet

In this crucial meeting for its future, the Parisiennes played on alternating current during the first act. After suffering during the first quarter of an hour, they reacted through Martens who forced the Italian goalkeeper to intervene twice (18th and 21st). In difficulty again at the end of the first period, PSG stinged at the best time thanks to a penalty from Geyoro (1-0, 45th). The first goal in this group stage.

Returning from the locker room, the break was made thanks to a subtle deviation from Marie-Antoinette Katoto following a precise serve from Geyoro (46th). In the process, Parisian goalkeeper Kiedrzynek brilliantly repels Giugliano’s penalty (54th). We then say to ourselves that nothing can disturb Parisians. But Giacinti tenses the Park four minutes later after a cross shot which deceives Kiedrzynek (2-1, 58th). Haavi narrowly misses the equalizer (65th). The Romans are pushing. PSG tenses but does not break to offer itself an essential victory for the rest of its European campaign. “We were on the edge of the abyss before the meeting: we either fell or we got up. Everything was not perfect but there are positives and the managers played their role this evening,” says Jocelyn Prêcheur.

There are now two final efforts left to spend the holidays warm. The Paris region derby on Sunday evening at the Charléty stadium against Paris FC (2nd) in D1 Arkema then a trip next Wednesday to Roma. In the event of a double success, the Parisiennes would partly erase their average start to the season. A great challenge.
