Munich (dpa) – After the canceled football game between FC Bayern and Union Berlin, Munich’s basketball game against Alba Berlin planned for Sunday has also been canceled.
“The reason for the postponement is the severe onset of winter in Munich and the surrounding area, which makes it impossible for the visiting team to travel to Berlin the day before the game,” said the Berliners. The decision was made by the Basketball Bundesliga in coordination with both clubs. It is still unclear when the duel between the long-term rivals will be rescheduled.
Snow and ice caused traffic chaos in the south on Saturday morning. Flight operations at Munich Airport were temporarily suspended until 6 a.m. on Sunday due to heavy snowfall. Numerous railway lines around the state capital were closed. The Bundesliga game between Union Berlin and FC Bayern planned for Saturday afternoon also could not take place.
