Marseille won against Rennes at the end of the 14th day of Ligue 1 (2-0). Find out what caught the attention of the editorial staff.

Tops

The rise of Ounahi

Rongier was strong and Veretout weakened, Azzedine Ounahi was able to celebrate this Sunday his first start in the Marseille midfield for a month and a half. A convincing return. Discreet in the first period alongside Kondogbia, the former Angevin felt comfortable after the break. Just in his transmissions, like his center poorly negotiated by Aubameyang, he was responsible for doubling the bet, after a great individual action. His raid within a bystander Rennes defense and his unstoppable strike for Mandanda definitely put OM safe in this match.

Indispensable Harit

Amine Harit has once again delivered a beautiful copy. Installed by Gennaro Gattuso as playmaker, the player trained in Nantes quickly stood out, sending an excellent ball towards Ndiaye on the action which caused the penalty. Technically above the rest, he did not hesitate to defend (eight duels won). If his goal at the end of the match was invalidated by Var for a (slight) offside by Murillo, the Moroccan international fully participated in this very precious victory for OM.

Flops

Wooh got it all wrong

As is often the case this season, Rennes paid dearly for the errors of its young defenders. This Sunday, Christopher Wooh precipitated the fall of the Breton club. Starting in a three-way central hinge, the 22-year-old caused a penalty at the start of the match, following a late tackle on Ndiaye. His evening definitely turned into a nightmare shortly after the hour mark, when his dangerous intervention on Kondogbia was logically punished with a red card. OM took cover immediately… His look of disappointment in the stands during the last minutes was hard to see.

Rennes too messy

Beaten 2-0, Rennes can nevertheless harbor legitimate regrets. Quickly led, Julien Stéphan’s men reacted immediately, taking the game into their own hands. The Rouge et Noir have been manhandling OM for a long time, but their lack of accuracy and efficiency in the last twenty meters was crippling. The figures speak for themselves, with only 16% of successful crosses and no shots on target out of ten attempts. Not worried by the opposing attackers, Pau Lopez only had to work once, on an involuntary header from one of his teammates (Vitinha) at the end of the match.

Clauss didn’t have the legs

Very successful this season, with OM or the Blues, Jonathan Clauss especially shone with a very unusual discretion this Sunday. The former Lensois, usually very enterprising in his right lane, did not influence enough and only made a small cross. And defensively, he suffered against the incessant rises of Truffert. On a bad evening, the French international finally gave way to Murillo at the break. Preserved by the Marseille staff who considered him tired, while OM are preparing to experience a new week with two matches.
