LAUTERBACH. The future of medical care in rural areas is the focus of the Vogelsberg district’s successful “medizin+” scholarship program.
As is traditional, the first district councilor, Dr. Jens Mischak the new scholarship holders, Lea Luh and Jonathan Menzel. The two aspiring doctors are focusing on their professional careers in Vogelsberg and are thereby contributing to ensuring the sustainable provision of healthcare in the region.
36-year-old Lea Luh from Ortenberg emphasizes her connection to rural life and sees her professional future as a doctor in the Vogelsberg district. Her commitment to the community is reflected not only in the scholarship, but also in her many years of volunteer work as a judo trainer. Jonathan Menzel from Breungeshain brings his experience from the emergency services with him and is aiming for a career in internal medicine and anesthesia, with long-term plans to work as an emergency doctor.
The medizin+ scholarship program was launched in 2016 and is proving to be a success story. Dr. Mischak emphasizes the importance of young talents supported by the scholarship in order to ensure medical care in the region. Lea Luh and Jonathan Menzel are the number 12 and number 13 scholarship holders to benefit from the program.
Both scholarship holders were quickly convinced of the attractiveness of the Vogelsberg district when they heard about the offer. The monthly support of 500 euros from the 5th semester of your medical studies is accompanied by the obligation to carry out your specialist training largely in Vogelsberg and then to settle in the region for at least three years.
