Uncle of Missing Girl Released from Prison and Placed Under House Arrest

FLORENCE, DECEMBER 20 – Kata’s maternal uncle, Abel Alvarez Vasquez, was released from prison after four months and is now under house arrest. The uncle of the little girl who disappeared from the former Astor hotel on 10 June was arrested as part of the investigation into the alleged room racket organized in the illegally occupied former hotel. The investigating judge of Florence Angelo Antonio Pezzuti accepted, after the favorable opinion of the prosecutor Christine von Borries, the request made by the lawyer Elisa Baldocci. “The period of time spent in custody in prison – writes the judge – seems to have had an adequate deterrent effect on the risk of recidivism”. The precautionary needs exist but are attenuated, according to the investigating judge, compared to when the measure was adopted in August, and can be safeguarded with house arrest. Abel Alvarez Vasquez was arrested in August together with Carlos De La Colina Palomino, Nicolas lenes Aucaucasi and Carlos Manuel Salinas Mena on various charges of extortion, attempted extortion, robbery, as well as attempted murder and serious injury committed last 28 May. That evening, according to what was reconstructed by the police, at the former Astor there was a punitive raid with sticks and baseball bats against an Ecuadorian occupant, who threw himself out of the window to save his life. Carlos de la Colina has also been under house arrest for a week, as has Nicolas Lenes Aucacasi, while Carlos Manuel Salinas Mena has been ordered to sign. (HANDLE).
