Uncertain Future: The Fate of Gaston Ávila and Carlos Forbs at Ajax

The question remains whether Gaston Ávila and Carlos Forbs will still be Ajax players in 2024. The trio was brought to Amsterdam by Sven Mislintat last transfer summer and has been quite disappointing so far. According to Het Parool the Ajax players will again be eligible for a departure in the winter.

“The question is whether Ávila, Forbs and Mikautadze will still be Ajax players in the second half of the season,” the newspaper begins. “The club wants to make a clean sweep after last summer’s dramatic transfer period, whereby the three can be considered for a departure,” it can be read further. Het Parool.

However, due to FIFA rules, it is difficult to sell recently purchased players. “Fifa stipulates that a player may play for only two clubs in one European season. Renting or selling back to their old club is an option,” the rule reads. This means that Mikautadze and Ávila may only return to their old club or transfer to a team outside Europe.

Forbs only played for Ajax this season, so he can be sold within Europe. After the historic low point, it seems Het Parool no longer a prospect for this trio at Ajax. The Amsterdam team lost last Thursday to USV Hercules (3-2), the number ten in the Third Division A.

Should Ajax say goodbye to this trio in the winter?
