Ticino Judo Athletes Shine at National Championships: Two Gold Medals and Nine Total Medals Earned

The finals of the individual national judo championships took place in Yverdon-les-Bains on Saturday and Sunday, organized by the Ecole judo Dégallier in the beautiful Salle omnisports des Isles. At the key event of the competitive season, which was attended by a large audience of enthusiasts, it was possible to witness exciting fights of great intensity, and despite the quality of their opponents, the Ticino judokas achieved excellent results.

On Saturday in the cadet categories (U18) Loris Perosa won the title of Swiss champion -81 kg. Determined as usual, the young man from Bellinzona got the better of his opponents with authority. The tai-otoshi with which he concluded the final with Abel Jaouada (JC Cheseaux) was very beautiful. Four more medals were obtained in the U18s: Luke Bürgisser (DYK Chiasso) won bronze -81 kg, a surprising result as he is in his first year as a cadet; Kai Bürgisser (DYK Chiasso -90kg) easily reached the final where he had to bow to Lorenzo Enz of JC Carouge, then winner of silver in the U21s; Antonio Niceta (DYK Paradiso) obtained bronze +90 kg; Finally, Alessandra Regazzoni (DYK Chiasso) placed third in the -70 kg category, winning two out of three matches. In the elite category, the expert Luca Wyler (JBC Bellinzona) won the +100 kg category, confirming himself as the most successful Ticinese ever. Fifth place instead for Roberto Maserin (JBC Bellinzona -60kg) and seventh for Matthew Marastoni (DYK Chiasso -73kg).

On Sunday it was the turn of the junior category (U21). Loris Perosa (JBC Bellinzona -81kg) narrowly missed out on reaching the final with a clear run and two spectacular ippons, before having to narrowly surrender to the national team Thien Oulevey (Mikami Lausanne). Further medals in the U21s were obtained by Giulia Cambianica (JBC Bellinzona) and Alessandra Regazzoni (DYK Chiasso) in the -70 kg category won by Esmeralda Damiano (JC Liestal). Also noteworthy is the silver obtained in one of the “Master” categories by Riccardo Arrigoni (JBC Lugano).

In the end, a total of nine medals were obtained by the rossoblù athletes in Yverdon, and with a haul including two gold medals for Ticino, this is by far the best post-pandemic result. A great satisfaction for the coaches of the various clubs represented and an incentive to continue working.
