Thirteen-Year-Old Klea Marku Wins Silver at Italian Judo Championships: A Rising Star in the Making

Klea Marku flies over the rooftops of Italy and wins the silver medal at the Italian judo championships. She is only thirteen years old, the new Italian vice-champion, she trains at Fujiyama Pietrasanta and her teacher is the multiple champion Eva Prayer. A truly important victory for the very young girl who carried the colors of Versilia high at the Italian championships in the Beginners category, which this year took place in Riccione.

Klea, how emotional are you for this result?

“In reality at that precise moment I didn’t even realize it. There were many emotions I felt: happiness was combined with adrenaline, tiredness, the pressure of the day; only the next day with a clear and calm mind I enjoyed my victory to the full.”

Why did you choose judo as a sport?

“I chose martial arts because initially I liked them and enjoyed practicing them, but now judo has become a real passion that makes me happy. When I’m on the tatami I don’t think about anything else, because I let off steam while I fight.”

Would you recommend this discipline to other girls?

“Absolutely yes, because it is a beautiful sport suitable for both genders. But above all I recommend it to women, because in a society like today’s where, unfortunately, we witness gender violence and feminicides, knowing and practicing judo can save the life”.

What is your secret dream?

“My greatest desire is to be able to conquer the podium at the Olympics in the future.”

Klea is very young but with a lot of determination and is already part of the regional judo team, raising the colors not only of Pietrasanta, but of all of Tuscany. Last Sunday, in fact, you ranked third at the international Nagaoka trophy in Slovenia.
