The Castilla La Mancha Tennis Federation to Promote Pickleball Development

The Castilla La Mancha Tennis Federation will promote the development of Pickleball as a racket sport in the coming months.

The Higher Sports Council has reached an agreement with the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation for the development of this new sports modality. The Tennis Federation of Castilla la Mancha, a member of the Spanish Federation, will be in charge in the territory of Castilla-La Mancha of promoting an organizational structure so that associations, clubs, practitioners, etc., can be integrated in an orderly manner to be able to develop in a near future championships, tournaments, etc…

In the coming days, the “Pickleball Committee” will be created where the tutelage of a coordinator will include at least one representative from each of the provinces who has some prior connection with the knowledge and practice of this modality.

From now on, all Provinces will be periodically informed of the members of this Committee, Associations, Clubs and ultimately practitioners who are part of the development of pickleball.

What is pickleball?

This sport is played with paddles or a racket and combines elements of tennis, paddle tennis, badminton and table tennis, in which two or four players hit a ball over a net, seeking to score points and win sets. It was invented in the mid-1960s in the United States as a playground game for children. Its growth and popularity has been exponential in recent years, especially in the United States, where millions of fans play it regularly. Its ease of learning and lower physical demands have made it very popular among people of all ages and physical conditions.
