Serie A: Premiere for Bisseck – Inter defends first place

As of: December 23, 2023 11:41 p.m

Inter Milan consolidated their lead in the Serie A on Saturday (December 23, 2023), which was also due to German central defender Yann Aurel Bisseck. Juventus Turin had previously won.

Yann Aurel Bisseck consolidated the former champions’ lead in the table with his first goal for Inter Milan. The former captain of the German U21 national team took the lead with a header in the 43rd minute in the 2-0 (1-0) win against US Lecce.

Central defender Bisseck, who played three games in the Bundesliga for his youth club 1. FC Köln in 2017, was successful for the first time in his sixth Serie A game. Shortly before the end, Nicolo Barella increased (78th), Lameck Banda saw red at Lecce (83rd).

Without conceding a goal for the twelfth time this summer

Yann Sommer also presented himself strongly again. The former Gladbach and Bayern keeper kept a clean sheet for the twelfth time in 17 games; the Swiss has only conceded seven goals in total so far. Inter are still four points ahead of Juventus as league leaders.

Two late goals – Roma win against Napoli

On Saturday evening, AS Roma beat SSC Napoli 2-0 (0-0) in their own stadium. The goals were scored by Lorenzo Pellegrini (76th) and Romelu Lukaku (90th + 6th). In the table, the Romans overtake the reigning champions from Naples. Rome has 28 points and is sixth, Naples has one point less and is in seventh place.

Another annoyance from SSC Napoli’s point of view were two sending-offs in the second half. First, Matteo Politano was tempted to commit an act of violence and was shown red for it (66′). Then Victor Osimhen, who had already been warned and had extended his contract until 2026 on the day of the match, stopped a Roma attack and was shown a second yellow card (86th). The game ended early for him too.

Juve struggles to win at Frosinone

Juventus Turin had previously won 2-1 (1-0) at newly promoted Frosinone. Kenan Yildiz (12th) and Dusan Vlahovic (81st) scored the goals for Juve. Frosinone had meanwhile equalized through Jaime Baez (51′).

Milan just 2:2 against Salernitana

With the win, Juventus was able to increase its lead over third-placed AC Milan; Milan only managed a 2-2 draw at Salernitana on Friday evening at the start of the 17th matchday.
