Riyadh to Host Exhibition Match Between Alcaraz and Djokovic for Tennis Cup Opening

Saudi Arabia is still insatiable for Christmas. After the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Neymar for its soccer league or the incorporation of Jon Rahm for the golf circuit, Riyadh will host an exhibition between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic on December 27, at 6 p.m. to start their season.

Under the name of Tennis Cup, the number 1 and number 2 of the ATP ranking will travel to the Saudi capital to take to the court of the Kingdom Arena where it will be their first match of the year before traveling to Australia to play the inaugural Grand Slam of the 2024 season. The match between the Murcian and the Serbian can be seen televised in Spain through DAZN.

Alcaraz has already begun his preparation in recent days in Villena, on the slopes of the Juan Carlos Ferrero Academy, and is already getting ready to seek his first Australian title, although first he will have a date against his great rival on the circuit, Novak Djokovic. It must be remembered that this will not be the Spanish tennis player’s only gig in the first part of the season, where he will also face Rafa Nadal in Las Vegas next March in a confrontation that will be broadcast on Netflix.

After the exhibition, and as already reported by Relevo, the one from El Palmar will return home and continue training for a few days at the Ferrero academy before heading to Australian soil in the second week of January. The first Grand Slam of the year is set for January 14 to 28.

Sabalenka and Jabeur will do the same

One day before, on December 26, it will be the turn of Aryna Sabalenka y Our Jabeur, number 2 and 6 in the WTA ranking, respectively. The Belarusian closed the 2023 season with the highest number of Grand Slam victories on the circuit in the year, with 23, although she only lifted the trophy in Melbourne, an event she will arrive at after this exhibition in Saudi Arabia.
