Real Madrid: Alaba also stops with a knee problem – Football

Real Madrid lose David Alaba for a long period due to a serious knee injury suffered during last night’s 4-1 win against Villarreal. The Austrian midfielder was injured in the first half in a clash with Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno.

“After tests carried out on our player David Alaba, he was diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” Real Madrid announced in a statement. The player will undergo surgery in the next few days. Alaba’s injury comes in addition to cruciate ligament injuries to goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defender Eder Militao, while midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is also benched after a torn knee ligament. Madrid only have two fit central defenders in Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez. Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni returned from injury as a substitute against Villarreal and could be picked in defense by coach Carlo Ancelotti. “It’s a shame, it’s very sad, and I’ve never had three cruciate ligaments damaged in four months,” Ancelotti said after Alaba’s injury. Madrid also lost striker Vinicius Junior, who has a hamstring injury.

But Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo Goes and Brahim Diaz did not make the Brazilian regret it. All three scored alongside Luka Modric in Madrid’s win over Villarreal.
