Rasta Vechta is shaking up the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga. The newcomer is currently in eighth place – fighting for the playoffs instead of staying in the league.
One reason for the achievements is the excellent youth work. In recent years, the small town club has repeatedly produced great talent. Johann Grünloh (18) is currently excelling at Vechta. The newcomer is considered the greatest German basketball talent in years.

Another teenager from the Rasta stable could soon follow in his footsteps. Moritz Grüß (15) is a top performer for Vechta’s team in the Junior Basketball Bundesliga (U19). Despite his young age, he averages around seven points per game. And there’s more: Grüß made his debut in the third division for Rasta’s second team last season – when he was still 14 years old!

His achievements were recently recognized by the “German Basketball Training Fund” association – Grüß received a scholarship. It includes a maximum funding amount of 3,000 euros per year – for up to three years. At Greetings, this money can now be used, for example, to cover travel costs incurred by the parents and work with a mental trainer.

“Moritz is certainly one of the most talented players in our program. And I am pleased that he was selected as a scholarship recipient. This supports his development with us and is an appreciation for him,” says Vechta’s sports director Gerrit Kersten-Thiele.
Jens Staudenmayer, chairman of the training committee, explains: “There are a number of major challenges on the way to becoming a professional basketball player. With the player scholarship we want to enable talented people to create the best possible individual conditions. Regardless of whether it is access to individual training or support from a mental coach: the player scholarship helps to improve the necessary conditions.”
