Pyeongtaek City: Achievements and Community Initiatives

[아시아타임즈 경기취재본부=강성규 기자]Pyeongtaek City announced on the 19th that it ranked second in the country in the Korea Local Government Competitiveness Index (KLCI) and was selected as an excellent organization for comprehensive local autonomy.

Accordingly, Pyeongtaek City received the ‘2023 Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index Excellent Institution Certificate’ from the Korea Institute of Public Autonomy (Chairman Choong-Hwan Kim).

The city’s expansion of its industrial base, including jobs and manufacturing, that support the city, acceleration of various urban developments, and subsequent population growth were cited as major factors in increasing its competitiveness. It received a total score of 672.5 in the management resources, management activities, and management performance categories, indicating overall competitiveness. Ranked 2nd nationwide.

Meanwhile, the Korea Local Government Competitiveness Index (KLCI) has been conducted by the Korea Public Autonomy Institute every year since 1996 for 226 cities, counties and districts across the country, using official government statistical data to measure comprehensive competitiveness in three sectors including management resources, management activities and management performance. It is an indicator published after research and analysis.

Pyeongtaek Family Center Club ‘Racket with Pyeongtaek’ won 3rd place

The Pyeongtaek City Family Center’s badminton club ‘Racket with Pyeongtaek’ announced on the 19th that it achieved good results, including taking third place in the middle and high school mixed doubles division at the 2023 National Multicultural Family Badminton Competition held at the Goyang City Gymnasium on the 16th.

The National Multicultural Family Badminton Competition is co-hosted by Yonhap News and the Goyang City Sports Council. This year marks its 14th anniversary and was held with approximately 500 members of multicultural families participating.

In ‘Racquet with Pyeongtaek’, in which 18 players from 9 teams participated in 4 events including couples’ doubles and men’s and women’s doubles, the team of Se-ra Lim (1st year, Pyeongtaek Girls’ High School) and Se-bin Lim (2nd year, Cheongbuk Middle School) took 3rd place in the middle and high school mixed doubles and placed the highest. (China) – Wang Lili (China) achieved good results in their first appearance in the competition, advancing to the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles.

‘Racquet with Pyeongtaek’ was formed last April as one of Gyeonggi-do’s multicultural family club revitalization support projects, and has been steadily holding club meetings, including winning the women’s badminton category at the 2023 Pyeongtaek Asian Cup.

Starting in March 2022, the Pyeongtaek City Family Center changed its name from ‘Pyeongtaek City Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center’ to ‘Pyeongtaek City Family Center’ and integrated services that were previously divided by family type into a service that all families in the region can use. It is an organization that provides universal and comprehensive family services.

Pyeongtaek City Agricultural Technology Center holds a comprehensive report on the 2024 business plan

Pyeongtaek City Agricultural Technology Center announced on the 19th that it held a six-department briefing session on the 2023 key projects and 2024 business plan on the 18th.

This briefing session was conducted by managers in each of the fields of agricultural policy, guidance policy, livestock companion animals, technology supply, rural resources, and distribution and shared them with employees. The direction of major projects for each department in 2024 was also discussed.

Major achievements in 2023 include the Gyeonggi-do city and county agricultural business evaluation award for the best institution, operation of customized education programs to foster key agricultural personnel, establishment of a prevention-focused preemptive quarantine system, distribution of future sustainable digital agricultural product production technology, and stable production of agricultural products in preparation for abnormal climates. These include establishing a system, operating a shared agricultural product processing business center, holding a seasonal festival at the Agricultural Ecology Center, and winning the grand prize in the ‘Super Owing’ agricultural and specialty product integrated brand category.

Jungang-dong Community Security Council delivers food package donations to low-income families

The Community Security Council of Jungang-dong, Pyeongtaek City announced on the 19th that it visited 55 households of vulnerable groups, including low-income families, and delivered various food packages.

The food package is a donation worth 5 million won received through the Pyeongtaek Happiness Sharing Headquarters and consists of customized food essential for neighbors in need, such as seaweed, beef seaweed soup, beef radish soup, brisket pork stew, ramen, hetbahn, tuna, and two types of side dishes. Members of the local social security council participated and packaged and visited households to deliver.

The Jungang-dong Community Security Council, which participated in the delivery of sponsorship items, received an encouragement award as a result of the performance report of the Pyeongtaek-si town and village community security council. Active volunteer work, such as identifying welfare blind spots and finding households in need of help, and conducting customized specialized projects, was evaluated.
