President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appreciates the National Police for naming Vigit Waluyo as a suspect in the case ‘mafia bola’.

Jokowi supports the continuation of law enforcement. He wants the National Police to move to rid football of fraudulent practices.

“When the National Police arrested him for something related to football and online gambling, I thought this was very good. Don’t stop here. Continue until the ball is really clean,” said Jokowi after inaugurating the PT Freeport Indonesia smelter in Gresik, Thursday (14/12) .

Jokowi wants there to be no more match fixing and money games in matches. According to him, this is the key to improving the quality of football in Indonesia.

He saw that there had been an increase in the quality of domestic football. However, he is not sure that developments will continue if the football mafia is not eradicated.

“If this isn’t finished, don’t expect our football to rise to a higher level,” said Jokowi.

Previously, the National Police named Vigit Waluyo as a suspect in the football mafia case. Vigit is known in domestic football for having been the manager of Persewangi Banyuwangi, PSIR Rembang, Persikubar West Kutai, and Deltras Sidoarjo.

Vigit is suspected of being involved in fixing the results of the 2018 League 2 match. The National Police also named seven people besides Vigit as suspects.

The football mafia suspects were charged with Article 2 and/or Article 3 of Law 11 of 1980 concerning the crime of bribery in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph 1 1 of the Criminal Code. They face a prison sentence of 3 to 5 years.
