Polish tennis star calls for well-being of players in response to WTA schedule changes

“It’s hard to say because I don’t know everything about the WTA business,” the Pole began, asked about her suggestions if she were WTA president, “but I would definitely take care of the number of compulsory tournaments will come next season. The schedule is changing towards more commitments, more strenuous effort at the tournaments, because the tournaments are also being expanded.”

The WTA is increasing the number of its 1000 tournaments to ten events from 2024. More players will also compete in Madrid and Beijing, increasing the duration of the tournament to two weeks. Next year’s Olympic Games will also be another highlight between Wimbledon and the US Open.

Swiatek explained that the innovations did not correspond to what the WTA normally advocates for. “This is simply not conducive to what the WTA otherwise specifies, for example mental health, life balance in every respect and physical health,” said the 22-year-old.

Summing up, she told Eurosport: “I would make decisions that correspond to what they want [die WTA] are otherwise encouraged and supported, rather beneficial,” and rounded off: “I would just concentrate a little more on the well-being of the players.”

Becker advises Zverev: “I can only recommend that…”
