Mats Hummels’ European Championship Nomination Hoax: What Really Happened

What was happening there?

BVB winner Mats Hummels (35) was announced as a European Championship driver on “TV Total” on Wednesday evening. As the show began, audience members held up cardboard plaques with the veteran’s name on them. Moderator Sebastian Pufpaff (47) accompanied the European Championship nomination fake with the words: “Mats Hummels is there. Mats, rock the European Championships!”

The fact is: Mats Hummels will not be part of national coach Julian Nagelsmann (36). BILD reported this exclusively. Nagelsmann will officially announce his squad on Thursday.

The false Hummels nomination is not the only fake that accompanies the DFB’s Scheibchen nomination. The Ostfriesen-Zeitung, on its own initiative, announced Deniz Undav’s nomination coupled with the addition that Marek Janssen from regional league team SV Meppen was also on national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s list.

Instead of Hummels, Nagelsmann relies on other players in central defense, including Robin Koch and Hummels’ teammate Nico Schlotterbeck.
